Hang a Gallery Wall Without the Stress
Paper templates, one simple spacing rule, and zero extra nail holes.
A gallery wall turns a blank wall into the most personal spot in your home. Gather more pieces than you think you need: prints, family photos, small mirrors, and even a woven plate or textile. Mixing sizes and frames keeps the wall interesting.
Before you hammer anything, lay the arrangement out on the floor. Then trace each frame onto kraft paper, cut the shapes out, and tape them to the wall. Live with the layout for a day and move pieces until it feels balanced.
Keep the spacing consistent, about two to three inches between frames, and anchor the group with your largest piece slightly off center. The middle of the whole arrangement should sit around 57 inches from the floor, the same height galleries use.
Quick tips
- Mark the nail spot on each paper template and hammer right through.
- Repeat one frame color to tie different pieces together.
- Leave 8 to 10 inches between the sofa back and the lowest frame.
- Start in the center and work outward.
